Spring/Summer
Inspired by Rodin’s watercolours the starting point is palette. Celadon, faded nude, blush, soft sienna and chalk on a base of charcoal, ebony and paper white. Form follows colour: structure for dark and white. Softness and drape as a backdrop for pastel tints. Key pieces transform sports inspired details into luxury sportswear: an abbreviated storm jacket – cut short and dry in matte Mikado, layered over a silk knit and brief shorts; a soft suede parka, strung at the waist and grounded by extreme wide leg trousers; a racer-back gown in signature satin draped from the shoulders; the oversized lux tee – a new Wakeley basic. Technical detail: Slivers of bolster collars bring focus to the body of jackets and coats in butter soft leather or suede; shadow seaming shows structure as embellishment on dresses in organza over cotton; bold swathes of satin or chiffon cut large and away from the body emphasize movement; hammered bullion embroidery contours the body across corsetry. Print detail: Graphic, clean lines from the paintings of Joseph Albers add bold texture and influence shadowing and layering.
