WAKELEY WOMAN
Amanda In discussion With: Fong Min Liao

After our Wakeley Women portraiture shoot, captured by the talented Laura Bailey and styled by Cathy Kasterine, Amanda was joined by Fong Min Liao, Chinese-American Painter.

Amanda: Tell me a little bit about your journey to where you are now?

Fong: Everything I have experienced has led me to this very moment today. I always knew I would be creating in some form. Art has always been my means of expression. My most important lesson in my journey was that I had to learn to become the love I never received. Through that, I became very passionate about spreading that love to the people around me. And it is through my art that I am able to do so.

Amanda: How old were you when you started to paint? Or did you draw or both?

Fong: I have been drawing and painting since I was a young child. Many of my happiest memories from my childhood were of me simply creating. I was that little girl always carrying around color pencils and paper.

Amanda: Are you practicing your art in any other medium besides painting?

Fong: Currently, I am focusing on painting in oil. However I hope to expand into sculpture in the near future.

Amanda: What led you to be an artist?

Fong: My desire to find my true self. It is only through my art am I able to be a nobody with no attachments. To be my self and not my ego. That is the only way I am able to love with a pure heart.

Amanda: What are your main references?

Fong: Human relationships and the art of observing.

Quickfire:

Amanda: Who are your favorite artists?

Fong: I am greatly inspired by Agnes Martin, Yayoi Kusama, Lee Ufan, Constantin Brancusi and many more.

Amanda: What are you reading right now?

Fong: The Yogi Code, Seven Universal Laws of Infinite Success by Yogi Cameron. This book has taught me many lessons and I often refer back to it.

Amanda: What is your favorite thing in your closet right now?

Fong: It is of course my Amanda Wakeley tailored cape. The perfect piece to add a bit of timeless drama to any look.
