The Power of Pinstripe
The Power of Pinstripe

The Power of Pinstripe

20th July 2016

There is something innately sexy about a woman inhabiting garments that were initially the dominion of men, and there are few styles that command a sense of macho empowerment than that of the pinstripe suit…

Conjuring images of waspish British men swarming the streets of London, to the superbly tailored mob bosses in movies like The Godfather and Goodfellas, the pinstripe is about power and authority…

For AW16, we’ve harnessed the masculine mood of this look, adhering to the tailored yet borrowed-from-the-boys look blended with ultra-feminine pops of colour that lend themselves to a sexy and empowering take on this key look.

Earn your stripes this season, and follow our guide for working the power of the pinstripe…

  • Pinstripes have an innate power to elongate the look of the silhouette, making you appear taller, leaner and altogether more polished. Enhance the lines of this look a wear with pointed shoes to continue the elegant lines of this look.
  • If you’re on the petite side, the key to wearing the look comes in the proportions. Opt for a leg elongating pinstripe pants, preferably slim leg. Avoid wearing this look head-to-toe as not to saturate yourself in stripes. Break up a navy pinstripe suit with a block colour fitted blazer and slim-fitting shirt.
  • Wide-leg pinstripe pants are perfect if you’re above average height and worn with a slouching blazer prevents you from looking overly imposing. Combine this look with a bold contrasting top to break up the uniformity of the print.
  • A pinstripe skirt is a flattering option for the office helping to draw the eye up and create a clean and smooth line. Pair a pinstripe skirt with a crisp white shirt tucked in.
  • Work pinstripe for a touch a casual luxe and simply partner a pinstripe jacket with jeans and a T-shirt for your weekend wardrobe.
